My name is Georgiana, your French tutor, language buddy & host In France. I live in Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse, in the Paris countryside. As a French immersion teacher, I am patient, warm, and rigorous, understanding the needs and goals of my students. I am fluent in several foreign languages, including English, which allows me to understand cultural differences and easily adapt to my students. I love nature, hiking, cycling, and organic, local cuisine.  I am also passionate about art, literature, and history, which allows me to organize enriching cultural tours for my students.  I enjoy interacting with people from different cultures and strive to make learning French not only effective but also enjoyable.

August 15th marks L’Assomption, a Catholic feast celebrating the Virgin Mary. While France grows more secular, this day remains important, especially in rural and coastal areas.

Religious and Cultural Significance

In many communities, the day includes church services, processions, and village festivals. As it’s mid-summer, the religious aspect often merges with holiday leisure.

In Brittany, coastal villages like Douarnenez host maritime processions where boats are blessed and decorated. Locals gather in traditional dress to honor both Mary and the sea.

In Occitanie, mountain villages may hold pilgrimages to chapels, followed by open-air masses and communal meals.

In Île-de-France, the Assumption is less visibly marked, but in certain parishes, especially in older suburbs, one can still find processions or choir performances.

Immersion Tip

Seek out a village festival or a mass in a regional language. Even if you don’t speak the dialect, the experience will connect you to local spirituality and traditions.
