French Immersion in Paris 5ème

French Immersion Homestay in

Paris 5è

The city

Located on the second floor of a historic building in Paris’s 5th arrondissement, this immersion program places you in the Latin Quarter, known as an intellectual center since the 12th century. Rue Lhomond, a former Roman road connecting Lutetia to Lugdunum, lies nearby, as do the Arènes de Lutèce and the Roman baths at the Cluny Museum. Everything is accessible on foot: rue Mouffetard features markets, traditional eateries, bistros, and café terraces. Places like Place de l’Estrapade and Place de la Contrescarpe offer a bohemian ambiance. You can explore local theaters, independent bookshops, or walk along pedestrian sections of the Seine. Regular breaks include guided tastings of pastries, ice creams, and cafés selected according to your preferences. The program integrates language learning with cultural exploration in authentic contexts, exposing you to everyday French usage. Recommendations for activities and visits align with your interests.

The historic and lively setting supports contextualized French practice, reinforcing vocabulary and comprehension through real-life interactions. The central location ensures access to educational sites, cultural landmarks, and local amenities. Personalized guidance assists navigation and cultural integration. Immersion emphasizes practical language application in markets, cafés, and neighborhood venues. Participants engage with heritage, gastronomy, and daily routines to improve proficiency. Accommodations provide a private study area and access to educational digital materials. The experience immerses you in the authentic Parisian environment, combining structured learning with experiential exploration.

Meet Catherine, your French language teacher and host.

My name is Catherine. I am spontaneous and open-minded. I have always enjoyed meeting people from diverse backgrounds. As a French teacher, I spent about ten years teaching in France and around fifteen years abroad, and I have traveled extensively. Former students regularly return to visit me and discover Paris. Sharing, teaching, and hospitality are at the core of my values. I firmly believe that such exchanges enrich both mind and heart. Opening my home means offering you a warm, respectful, and supportive environment conducive to learning, discovery, and personal growth.

I live in the heart of Paris, in the Latin Quarter, where every street and building has a story. I will propose urban walks on historical themes, such as Gallo-Roman Paris, Medieval Paris, or Revolutionary Paris. I will also introduce you to various curiosities of my city: the booksellers along the Seine, typical cafés, and the small theaters in the neighborhood.

I am committed to helping you discover my language, my city, and my culture through a genuine immersion experience.

Language and educational background

I have a varied professional background as a French and FLE teacher, actress and drama instructor, and training coordinator at the Direction des Musées. After two years in preparatory classes and obtaining eligibility for the École Normale Supérieure, I advanced directly to the oral stage of the CAPES competition in Modern Literature but chose to defer in order to pursue theater. Following three years of training, I joined a theater company and school as an actress and drama teacher. I then served as training coordinator at the Cultural Action Office of the Direction des Musées de France during the “Ruée vers l’Art” period, developing and delivering programs for teachers to open museums to school audiences.

Five years later, I moved to Brazil to work at the Lycée Français de Brasilia, implementing interdisciplinary projects and creating a Franco-Brazilian theater workshop with University of Brasilia students; I also completed a degree in French as a Foreign Language. Back in Europe, I spent nearly ten years at the European School of Luxembourg, teaching French levels I–IV to around twenty nationalities and, as French coordinator, managing harmonization of European Baccalaureate examinations. In my most recent role at a secondary school in the Paris region, I launched peer tutoring, experimental classes for students at risk of dropping out, and writing workshops whose participants competed at the academic level. In each setting, I applied innovative pedagogical methods focused on student engagement, autonomy, and creativity to facilitate knowledge access and positive learning experiences.

Cultural Walks & Urban Adventures
As a French teacher, drama coach, and language enthusiast, I love sharing my city and its history. Together, we’ll explore literature, theater, and poetry linked to each site. Walks are tailored to your interests, schedule, and even the weather. You can choose one or two guided walks, and I’ll also give tips for exploring independently.
